Hello gorgeous MB members.

I've been playing with the idea of sharing the Baking Maybe's eBook on the Making Babies forum. I will divide the eBook into parts, maybe weekly or twice weekly depending on the discussions.

My idea is that you can read and then comment on your own feelings, ask questions or just give someone else support. Ultimately I want you all to feel and have the support you need during your TTC journey.

I wrote Baking Maybe's when I was heading for my 3rd year of infertility (TTC). So it's from that part of my life that I have closed the book on so to say. But that doesn't mean that you can't benefit from it. :)

Conceive Plus for Clomid Users

With all the lovely side effects from Clomid, hot flushes, headaches, mood swings to name a few, have you ever wondered about your cervical mucus being affected?

Clomid binds to estrogen receptors (including the estrogen receptors in the cervix) this can interfere with the ability of the cervical mucus glands to produce fertile mucus. The lack of fertile CM leading up to ovulation can interfere with the sperm penetrating through the cervix and into the fallopian tubes. Using Clomid may also decrease the quality of CM your body produces.

Another side affect may be vaginal dryness (due to the lack in CM). This of course can make it very uncomfortable for both you and your partner.

So what can you do? Using regular lubricants like KY Jelly can actually be harming your chances of conception. There is however a Sperm friendly lubricant called Conceive Plus available from Making Babies.

Making Babies FORUM!

I'm so happy to see that our numbers are increasing daily. We hit 65 members today, but I am concerned that there isn't much chatting going on. I did receive a mail saying that the site is very slow, is anyone having a similar problem?

I would love to know if there is anything I can do to help get the site more busy. There are so many ladies out there needing support while TTC that we could all do with a friend.

Remember the forum is not only for serious TTC issues, but come have a laugh. Sometimes a smile can do wonders.

My most humble apologies. Things are rather hectic here on this side.

I've always been very passionate about "getting help". I always hate the saying "no we are going to wait a little while longer". If you are struggling to conceive you need to get help. Putting it off for another month, or another 3 months is not going to help your situation.

National Infertility Awareness Week
24 April - 1 May

Although NIAW is being run in the USA, this week: 24 April - 1 May. I'm sure many of us South African woman could use the support and guidance from fellow infertiles.

I found a great link to the Resolve website that deals with 7 things you can do for NIAW. The most important one I think is that you EDUCATE yourself.

Do you need to see a specialist?

According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, you should seek the care of a specialist if you are unable to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected intercourse and the women is under the age of 35, six months if the women is more than 35 years of age. You should also seek the care of a specialist if you have had more than one miscarriage.

If you answer "YES" to any of these statements talk to your health care professional now regardless of how long you've been trying to conceive. RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association urges you and your partner to take charge of your fertility. Asking questions, educating yourself or your partner, and being your own advocate are the fastest ways to building your family.

* I have painful periods.
* I have irregular periods.
* I can not pinpoint when I ovulate.
* My partner/I have a history of STDs.
* I have an unhealthy Body Mass Index (BMI). (underweight or overweight)
* I have had more than one miscarriage.

Positive Affirmations

For those of you that don't belong to the Making Babies Network... (and you really should join).... We had a member that shared the following Positive Pregnancy Affirmations with us.

Some women use positive affirmations to help them overcome fear, to get pregnant or to simple remind themselves that pregnancy is not an illness. While affirmations are simple and easy, they are also effective for many women.

I think you can apply the same affirmations to TTC.

My body knows how to create life

I will be a good mother

From Pregnancy About:

Using positive affirmations can have a drastic effect on your world, but there are some rules you need to follow in order to get the most out of your daily affirmations.

* Are statements you make that are positive.
* Do work, It’s a law.
* You need to commit to at least 30 days before you will know for yourself.
* Must be personal.
* Must be positive to get positive results.
* Need to be stated in the present tense.
* Need to be simple.

I also need to add in here, that we have 2 Inofolic BFPs at Making Babies!!! I'm so stoked. We have also created a group on the Network called: Project Inofolic for all members who are on Inofolic at the moment to share their experience and get support from fellow TTCers.

Age: nothing but a number?

Trying to conceive (TTC) in your Thirties may prove to be more difficult than when you were younger and at your most fertile.

A study showed that:

* By age 30, 7% of couples were infertile
* By age 35, 11% of couples were infertile
* By age 40, 33% of couples were infertile
* At age 45, 87% of couples were infertile

Women are born with over a million eggs, but by the time they hit puberty just over 300 000 are left. Of this huge amount of eggs, would you believe that only about 300 will mature and be part of the ovulation process?

As we age, our reproductive capability slows down, our eggs don't mature enough to be considered healthy to sustain a healthy ovulation followed by a successful pregnancy. This is a natural decline of fertility, it can happen to any woman regardless of how well we have taken care of our bodies. Of course having bad habits such as smoking and consuming alcohol could speed up this decline in fertility.

Often in older woman who are TTC, their bodies might lack myo-inositol. Are any bells ringing yet? Myo-inositol is the main ingredient in Inofolic. It is responsible for producing healthy follicle fluid which determines the health of the egg.

Healthy egg = Healthy pregnancy

Most women who are having ovulation issues are put onto Clomid as a first line of treatment plan. How ever some times the body does not react to the Clomid as it should, i.e producing follicles and successful ovulation. This is where Inofolic can also play a role: One study showed that Inofolic will reduce clomiphene resistance significantly when started at least one month before Clomiphene treatment. Meaning that it will help your body "react" to the Clomid more successfully.

YI and TTC

Good morning everyone

Now that April's Fools and Easter has been dealt with I hope there is some serious Baby Making going on. :) We already have our first beautiful BFP on the board for April, be sure to go have a look!

Our newest product INOFOLIC is really proving to be very popular amongst our TTC ladies. (And not only for PCOS). Inofolic can be used for normal fertility as well by increasing egg health and balancing hormones. Another draw card is that Inofolic can be used for weight management.

I have had a few queries over the last month or two about how Yeast Infections (YI) - Candida can affect Trying to Conceive. Yeast infections are over all pretty easy to clear up with some meds from your doctor or OTC at the chemist. The only effect a YI can have is that it can cause a “hostile” environment for the sperm to survive. It has no effect on ovulation or conception itself. So it all comes down to the environment that we are subjecting the sperm to.

A yeast infection won’t stop you from falling pregnant but it can make the process of trying to conceive a little more difficult.

Using an anti-fungal cream like Monistat or other over the counter remedies will help you get rid of the infection but you are actually interfering with the sperm's path to the uterus. The sperm will have increased difficulty going around and through the anti-fungal creams.

Bearing in mind as well, though it is uncommon, you can pass your yeast infection to your partner causing cross infection back and forth. Not solving the issue at all. You are better off trying to conceive once the yeast infection has cleared up.

How do we ensure that we have happy v-jay-jays for that all important sperm to survive in? Come on, you all knew I was going to have a solution for you...... :)

Monogin

The studies show that Monogin is effective for the treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis but it also has fungistatic (stop growth) and fungicidal (kill fungus) properties and therefore can be used to treat fungal infections as well. Monogin only has a cross infection rate of 1.8% vs the 12.1% - 20% of other Medicated Anti-Fungal Creams.

Monogin is a great once off, easy to use product for the treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis.

It's another short week for us with the Easter Weekend coming up. I hope you are all taking good care of yourselves.

I'm pleased that the Network is so busy as of late. I'm loving all the support and positive vibes that are flying around, if you haven't joined in on the discussions/blogs yet, you are missing out!

We launched the INOFOLIC product last week and have had a great response to it. The positive feed back we are getting back on the product is amazing. To quote a few members:

A big thank you to all you wonderful members for being a part of Making Babies! We reached our two year anniversary yesterday and feel so honoured to be a part of your TTC journey and of course beyond pregnancy tests by meeting your precious babies after much tears and excitement.

Although our MB Baby Gallery is still small at the moment, (still waiting for those pics ladies!) I invite you to check it out so long. We definitely have the cutest babies around on any forum! (I think you would all agree).

Do you think it's totally normal for me to still be jealous of everyone around me who are still TTC and falling pregnant? It's not that I want to be TTC right now, no not at all. But there is still that little heart ache that pops up every now and then. Thinking, that used to be me.... could be me... I still want it. But I know it has to be put of hold for at least a couple of years. Yes, my friends a couple of years. There won't be any Baby Making from me for a very long long time.

So for now I live vicariously through my on line friends. Keeping a close eye on their cycles, on their symptoms, on their temps. Bugging the hell of them to POAS!! I can watch their bellies grow, I can stare at pics of their little new born babies and ah and ooohhhh over them. It's precious, it's wonderful, it's also a little heart breaking. But mostly exciting....

Speaking about exciting, my very dear friend Megs is PREGNANT!!! It is wonderful to write out those words - Megs is PREGNANT! (ok, Charles too.... he is also part of this) BUT MEGS IS PREGNANT. Head on over to her blog and check it out.

1) McKenna my angel pie has started Grade R and LOVING IT! She has grown up so much over the last few months. I'm ever thankful that I got blessed with such a wonderful daughter.

2) I have the most AWESOME boyfriend - known to my bloggy friends as "B". Makes me totally giddy just thinking about him. :)

3) We are going camping this weekend, well not tent camping but caravan camping. Should prove to be tons of fun. We will be celebrating Stevie's 17th Birthday.

4) B is going away for another agonizing 10 days! But I will survive, I just drive other people nuts with count downs.

5) It's another 58 days till I turn 30! We are having a big party, thanks to my dear friends M&H for convincing me to do so.

6) I finally got the chance to tell a certain person exactly what I think of them. Sorry for this one you need to have access to my private blog. It felt very freeing to eventually be able to do so.

7) I POAOPK yesterday, just for fun. Yes the addict in me will never die!!! NEVER! I just wanted to see what it would say. I am on BCP, and no ways planning any babies at this point in time. hahahahahahaha.

I don't normally post PG related stuff on here, since we are more concerned about the actual getting pregnant side of things. BUT, my friend N (who I LOVE just BTW hehe) showed me an interesting site this morning for PG ladies.

At first I thought she was joking. Like seriously, a bell? Hanging by your PG belly. I had visions of N running around the house, ting-a-ling-ning all day long. Ja whatever. You can get bells at your local craft store for R4.00 I said. She said NO, go look at the site..... Then I clicked on the site. Now I want one, and I'm not even PG LOL

Pregnant ladies wear these bells low on their bellies so that the baby can hear the calming sound of the chime and after birth they can be hung above the baby's crib and rung when the baby is upset or uneasy.

Go have a look at Mystic Bells. My personal fav is the Lotus Heart and Motif Heart.

I'm thinking TTC ladies, you got to add this to your list. Show your partner this really beautiful pendant and kind of hint that it would make a lovely "Thank you for falling pregnant" gift. ;-)

Some good news from Conceive Plus

I often get some great "success stories" from my supplier of the Conceive Plus Lubricant. Thought I would share this one with you:

I had to contact you because I think your produce actually does work! I'm sorry if that sounds flippant, but after 7 yrs of male infertility factor we've spent a fortune on 'remedies'.

With the start of the new year, I was wondering if any of you have decided to do anything "new" on the TTC front. Have you read about any interesting supplements or new techniques that could help other couples out? Care to share?

Thought I would also maybe refresh your memory with regards to the SPERM MEETS EGG PLAN:

Sounds intriguing enough doesn’t it. The SMEP can give you a better opportunity of ensuring that the sperm gets to your egg. Obviously if you have blocked tubes or other physical conditions preventing conception including NOT ovulating, this plan will not work for you.

Warning: This plan requires some serious BDing, so make sure you are up for it.

When people try to take advantage of couples TTC...... argh, rubs me up the wrong way..... yeah I know I send out plenty of mail with our latest Making Babies specials and news... BUT, I was so upset this morning when I got this "private message" from someone over at another forum.

She sends me this:

Hey hun, I understand your TTC frustration.

Believe it or not, my husband and I tried to conceive for more than 2 years. We tried to refrain from sex for days and even weeks but it didn't help.
Worst part is, there were empty hopes - I thought I was pregnant but in the end I wasn't. It's really frustrating and I understand that.

How I would announce my Pregnancy to my Husband by Cinnamon Girl

My husband has wanted a new, decent, fancy camera for a long time now. Cameras and his family are like Cookies and Ice Cream. In fact it is a running joke that they look like a family of Japanese tourist when they get together during a function. Even hired photographers have commented, in some cases with envy, on the equipment members of the family own just to take everyday family snap shots.

The only camera we own is hand me down Canon he inherited from his sister. Now this is of course nowhere near the type of photographic equipment my husband would like. Don’t get me wrong the type of camera he would like is relatively modest.

I have urged him to go and buy the camera of his dreams on several occasions, but he has always shrugged it off and used the money for something around the house.

Now if I do finally fall pregnant, I have put away a decent amount of money and I have decided that I will announce my pregnancy with a decent NIKON Camera.

With this said camera, I will take its first photograph of my positive home pregnancy test. Then I will tie a bow around the camera and place it into the arms of a nice big teddy on the bed with a note.

The note saying:

You have always looked for an excuse not to buy yourself this camera.

Well I have the best excuse for you to own it.

You will need a camera fit to capture all the special moments.

You are going to be a father.

I love you and thank you.

What's the hardest part of TTC?

Between all the taking of temperatures, stretching CM and keeping BD schedules - getting pregnant can be taxing on the soul. Please go vote in our poll: What's the hardest part of TTC?

I used to hate those 24 hours leading up to Ovulation. You know it's coming, you pray and beg and plead and pray that what ever you do in the next 24 hours leads to a healthy pregnancy.

Then around 10dpo you get this itch to POAS. Only to sit for hours staring at a possible line that deep down you know really isn't there, but your heart does see something. You get annoyed with yourself for testing early in the first place. You should have waited at least another day (stretching it to maybe another two days.)

Argh, and then AF hits....... TTC is not for sissy's.

We often get into conversations about gender selection while TTC. I found an interesting article on Getting Pregnant Blog

It seems that research has stated that taking cranberry via either pills or juice can influence the gender of your baby, in favour of team PINK.

Cranberry will make your cervical mucus (CM) more acidic, which sperm does not like at all. But since female sperm are stronger than male sperm they have more chance to survive the hostile conditions.

Be warned though that cranberry can affect the amount of CM that your body produces, so you are bound to have less CM which isn't really ideal for TTC. Since you ideally want as much EWCM as possible to increase your chances of any conception. ;-)

If you are already having issues with CM production then I don't think you should be going the cranberry route in order for team PINK. It might just be doing more harm than good.

Pregnancy vs Baby

As I was holding my friend's baby on Saturday morning, I looked down at him ran my finger across his face and smiled. Inside my heart skipped a beat and stung a bit. I realized looking down at his precious little face, while stroking his teeny toes that this might be the closet I get to holding a baby again for a very long time. I was a bit sad that I wouldn't be holding my own very soon. As in - not for a few years at least. But I enjoyed meeting this little guy who we have been planning for so long. It was awesome to have him in real life there, cooing back at you.

(Then my McK ran past and I realized I love her 5 year old toes too, and I am incredibly lucky and blessed to have her.)

Motherhood is a challenge. It's the hardest job you will ever have, and yes it will be the most awesome one too. But it got me thinking, do you want to be pregnant or have a baby? Odd question? I don't think so.

There were many times when I would think I just wanted to be pregnant. To recapture that what I lost with my pregnancy with McK. There are so many things I wanted to do differently. Then I would feel overwhelmed thinking that at the end of 9 months there would actually be a baby. A real person. It wouldn't just be two lines on a HPT. It wouldn't be that first u/s with a beating heart. It wouldn't just be that first kick. There would actually be a baby at the end....

Babies grow up into 5 year old's... and 5 year old's grow into teenagers.... and teenagers... well you know the rest of this story. :) Isn't it wonderful that something so important as two lines on a pee stick can develop into a life changing situation. Even if you aren't prepared for the full package yet.

Would you do it again?

I often wonder especially now, if I would ever go through the infertility heartache again. Would I put myself through all that? If I knew how my future was going to turn out, would I have stopped it ages ago and not let infertility or trying to conceive run my life like it did?

Would I do it again? Yes, I think so. I still want another child. One day. So yes, I'm fully prepared to go through all the emotions again. All the frustration, all the stress, all the excitement. All the trying...... I think the next time round will be different because I know exactly what to expect. I hope there will be a next time. I don't doubt for a minute that it won't be heart breaking.

Do I regret going through it? No. I needed it. It changed me. Put everything into perspective for me. I can apply what I learnt from infertility to so many aspects of my life. To appreciate what I have. To have compassion and understanding. I will never say I wasted 3 years of my life TTC. It wasn't a waste. It was a major growth curve for me.

I would never want to do it over or erase it from my life. If I think of my amazing SOP girls. 12 woman who have touched my heart and life in a way I have never thought possible. My dear friend Nicki, who I adore with everything in me!!!! I would never want to imagine my life without her. My mommy girls, my Making Babies members... Each person means so much to me, and play such a huge role. So no, I would never want to erase my 3 year journey. Not for anything in the world.....

Weight and Fertility

Argh, the "W" word. I remember being so petrified every time I used to walk into my EX-Gynae's rooms. My blood pressure would go through the roof. He always complained about my weight. It was the easiest excuse for him as to why we weren't falling pregnant. Blame it on the weight. I remember the one time I was so proud that I had lost 4kg, when I told him he said to me: "By the rate you are losing weight, you will probably be pregnant in 2 years". Idiot.......

So needless to say I was always so demotivated and p!ssed off about my weight and TTC. I wouldn't even open articles that spoke about weight affecting TTC. Until I met my new Gynae. When I told him about my weight issues. He looked at me as if I was nuts, and said "what weight issues? You look fine to me." I nearly kissed the man.

Now I know I wasn't seriously over weight, I could do with loosing a few kgs. (Like any woman always wants too.) But what was amazing was the difference in attitude between the two docs. For 3 years, the EXdoc would literally shout out at me and I would not do anything about the extra weight. New doc, lovely man = me getting more healthier and actually wanting to exercise.

I don't want to preach about weight affecting your fertility. But if you glance through the passages below:

For women, very low weight can decrease GnRH production, which can result in irregular ovulation or a complete stop to ovulation. Too little GnRH can affect the development of the uterine lining and its receptivity to the implanting embryo. For men, low weight could lead to decreased sperm count or function.

Being overweight can also lead to an abnormal hormonal signal, impacting ovulation and possibly sperm production. It can cause an overproduction of insulin, which may result in irregular ovulation. There is also a link between obesity, excess insulin production and the infertility condition known as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

A healthy return to normal body weight will often reverse hormonal irregularities, thereby restoring fertility. Not only that, but normal body weight is also the healthy way to prepare for pregnancy. Whether you have to shed or gain some pounds, changes in weight should be made before getting pregnant, since drastic changes can be detrimental to your developing baby. If the cause of obesity is related to PCOS, the use of insulin sensitizing drugs may be needed in addition to dietary changes. Please consult with your healthcare provider prior to taking any medications, prescribed or over the counter.

It really couldn't do you any harm to get active and create the best environment (body) to fall pregnant. Exercising makes you feel better, is a great stress reliever and clears the mind. (Well at least for me it does.) And I'm sure you could do with less stress while TTC right?

Don't kill yourself with hectic routines if you aren't used to it. Start off slow, do something you enjoy. Maybe something both you and your partner can do together.

Ps. I'm sure some creative BD sessions could be considered as exercise too *wink wink*

So your partner may not be willing to start popping some supplements to increase his sperm count, there are some foods that you could introduce to his diet to help with that ;-)(to help with sperm count not force him to take supplements LOL)

1. Red peppers, carrots, oatmeal, dried apricots. The vitamin A in these foods help grow healthy sperm.

2. Asparagus, snow peas, cooked tomatoes, strawberries. The vitamin C in these foods affect sperm motility and viability.

3. Turkey, eggs, seafood, oysters, pumpkin seeds. The zinc found in these foods help produce healthy sperm.

4. Leafy green veggies, avocados, beans, whole grains. To increase your sperm count, production, and motility.

5. Salmon, sardines, anchovies, walnuts. “DHA and other essential omega-3 fatty acids help improve blood flow to the genitals and increase sexual function,” writes Heidi Murkoff in What to Expect Before You’re Expecting.

Now I'm hungry after reading that. :)

Ovulation Predictor Tests 101

I received some pics from a Making Babies member (also a good friend) of her Ovulation Predictor kits(OPK), and thought I would share them with you as well, and also do a quick recap on how OPKs work.

Unlike Home Pregnancy Tests(HPT) a second line is not always a positive result. When taking an OPK, you want the test line to be as dark (or darker) than the control line. That would indicate the positive result, which means the test is picking up the Luteinizing Hormone (LH) surge that is produced just before ovulation.

Once you have gotten your positive result, you are supposed to ovulate within 12-36 hours. I noticed with my positive results, I would ovulate 2 days later. So it's not uncommon to go as long as 48hours after the positive.

A few rules to remember when OPKing:

1) It's best to test late afternoon/early evening. I used to get my best results at 3pm. However, some ladies get better results at 6pm. It all depends on how your body produces LH.

2) Try to limit your fluid intake for at least 2 hours before testing. This includes holding your P for those 2 hours prior.

3) If you are using a Making Babies OPK, remember the test needs 10 minutes to react after the urine has passed over the control line. DO NOT discard the test after a few minutes. WAIT the whole 10 minutes for an accurate result.

4) If you are taking Clomid/Fertomid only start using OPKs about 2 days after your last pill.

Now for N's OPKs:

Unfortunately these pics were taken when the tests had already dried... :) But you can still get the general idea of how OPKs work.

The top pic is the positive on CD19, it was by far the darkest line N got. A true positive. She did test on CD20 again, and it was a negative.

The bottom tests, are the few she took leading up to CD19. You can see she had a nice build up of lines.

This however isn't always the case, you can have no build up of lines. You can have negative/white test results and then bam a positive the next day:

OPKs can be quite expensive if bought in store or at a Pharmacy. I think I last priced them at R 150.00 - R200.00 for 5 tests. Depending on what brand you buy. At Making Babies you can buy 10 Tests for R 100.00 :) You see that is a great saving, you now have more money to buy HPTs. LOL :)

I was wondering, if you got lines that dark would you go for bloods to confirm? I know bloods are the final stamp "YES" or "NO". But I think if I were the recipient of those tests above I would give the bloods a skip. :)

Fake it

Now where was this test when I was TTC? Could have done with a few POSITIVES in my journey, albeit fake ones LOL Could have been a real "pick me upper".... NOT... When I saw this on the WWW I wondered how many of these tests were bought for (what it was meant for) jokes, to fool someone into thinking the tester was indeed pregnant.

I thought this bill board was quite funny. "Don't shoot the messenger." In other words, don't fling that negative test across the room, or rip it too pieces after you have given it the stare of death. I know I've often felt in the past like setting them on fire and watching it die a slow painful death. Darn pee stick!

I came across this on my FAVOURITE forum MOMMY this morning, but have received it via email too in the past.. Just thought I would share it with you all.

FOR ALL MOMS (PRESENT, PAST OR POSSIBLY FUTURE)
AND MOMS AT HEART (FATHERS)

We are sitting at lunch when my daughter casually
mentions that she and her husband are thinking of
"starting a family."

"We're taking a survey," she says, half-joking. "Do
you think I should have a baby?"

"It will change your life," I say, carefully keeping
my tone neutral. "I know," she says, "no more
sleeping in on weekends, no more spontaneous
vacations...."

But that is not what I meant at all. I look at my
daughter, trying to decide what to tell her. I want
her to know what she will never learn in childbirth
classes. I want to tell her that the physical wounds
of child bearing will heal, but that becoming a
mother will leave her with an emotional wound so raw
that she will forever be vulnerable.

I consider warning her that she will never again
read a newspaper without asking "What if that had
been MY child?" That every plane crash, every house
fire will haunt her. That when she sees pictures of
starving children, she will wonder if anything could
be worse than watching your child die.

I look at her carefully manicured nails and stylish
suit and think that no matter how sophisticated she
is, becoming a mother will reduce her to the
primitive level of a bear protecting her cub.

That an urgent call of "Mom!" will cause her to drop
a souffle or her best crystal without a moment's
hesitation.

I feel I should warn her that no matter how many
years she has invested in her career, she will be
professionally derailed by motherhood.

She might arrange for childcare, but one day she
will be going into an important business meeting and
she will think of her baby's sweet smell. She will
have to use every ounce of her discipline to keep
from running home, just to make sure her baby is all
right.

I want my daughter to know that everyday decisions
will no longer be routine. That a five year old
boy's desire to go to the men's room rather than the
women's at McDonald's will become a major dilemma.
That right there, in the midst of clattering trays
and screaming children, issues of independence and
gender identity will be weighed against the prospect
that a child molester may be lurking in that
restroom.

However decisive she may be at the office, she will
second-guess herself constantly as a mother.

Looking at my attractive daughter, I want to assure
her that eventually she will shed the pounds of
pregnancy, but she will never feel the same about
herself. That her life, now so important, will be of
less value to her once she has a child. That she
would give it up in a moment to save her offspring,
but will also begin to hope for more years -- not to
accomplish her own dreams, but to watch her child
accomplish theirs.

I want her to know that a cesarean scar or shiny
stretch marks will become badges of honor. My
daughter's relationship with her husband will
change, but not in the way she thinks. I wish she
could understand how much more you can love a man
who is careful to powder the baby or who never
hesitates to play with his child. I think she should
know that she will fall in love with him again for
reasons she would now find very unromantic.

I wish my daughter could sense the bond she will
feel with women throughout history who have tried to
stop war, prejudice and drunk driving.

I hope she will understand why I can think
rationally about most issues, but become temporarily
insane when I discuss the threat of nuclear war to
my children's future.

I want to describe to my daughter the exhilaration
of seeing your child learn to ride a bike. I want to
capture for her the belly laugh of a baby who is
touching the soft fur of a dog or a cat for the
first time. I want her to taste the joy that is so
real, it actually hurts.

My daughter's quizzical look makes me realize that
tears have formed in my eyes. "You'll never regret
it," I finally say. Then I reach across the table,
squeeze my daughter's hand and offer a silent prayer
for her, and for me, and for all of the mere mortal
women who stumble their way into this most wonderful
of callings. This blessed gift from God . . . that
of being a Mother.

Please share this with a Mom that you know or a
future Mom, or a Mom at heart.

Infertility Grief

Grief is a somewhat complicated and misunderstood emotion. Yet, grief is something that, unfortunately, we must all experience at some time or other. We will all inevitably experience loss. Whether it is a loss through death, divorce or some other loss, the stages of grieving are the same.

Grieving the loss of a dream, that child/baby you so badly want to have and hold can be heart breaking. Most couples TTC, go through this loss every month. Some only start going through the loss when they have been diagnosed as infertile....

There are 5 stages of grief:

1-Denial-"this can't be happening to me"

2-Anger-"why me?"

3-Bargaining - Begging, wishing, praying

4-Depression-overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, frustration, bitterness, self pity

5-Acceptance-there is a difference between resignation and acceptance

Sometimes you mix up the order of the stages. I know I had to immediately jump into acceptance when I decided to end my relationship with my DH. The bargaining was always there. I know I have been through each stage at some point during my TTC journey.

The depression I think will always be there, under lying. I had to deal with failed cycles month after month for over 3 years. I don't think it will go away totally. Then all of the sudden I was closing the door on it. Never really dealing with it, jumping straight to stage 5.

As of recent I've been dealing with it all over again. Only this time I'm having to grieve two losses at the same time, that of a relationship and of another child. Some days it's hard to define which one I'm grieving. I think it's taking quite a toll on my sanity at the moment.

I don't want to go google and give you steps on how to deal with it. Anyone with personal experience that would like to share???

To those of you who are TTC your 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc etc babies. I have a few questions….

How long did you TTC with your first (previous) kiddies?

It took us 10 months TTC McK. I left my BCP the day I got married Almost 10 months to the day I got my first ever BFP.

Your first TTC attempts, were you just going with the flow or actually into the whole charting/temping/POAS thing?

I didn’t even know about BBT back then. Hell, I wasn’t even checking my CM. LOL. Odd I know. But back then I was a “TTC Virgin”.

If it wasn’t for the internet would you still be a crazed TTC addict (and I mean that in the nicest way)?

The internet ruined my naïve approach to life you could say. But also taught me valuable information and compassion to TTC and infertility. I don’t think I would have been so obsessed about TTC if I wasn’t a Google freak.

How long have you been TTC your 2nd, 3rd etc etc?

We were just over our 3 year TTC our 2nd when we surrendered for obvious reasons.

Did you think it would take longer or shorter than your first TTC attempt?

Of course, I really thought 10 months was for ever!! I tripled that and more, very disappointing as I really thought hey we have one what could be so hard the next time round.

When you started off TTC your next baby, did you have a gender preference this time around?

I was so excited, I just wanted a boy!! For the first year, it was boy boy boy… from then I just didn’t care, I just wanted a baby.

It really does feel like I'm turning the Making Babies blog into an advertising campaign.... :( There are as of late more Product related posts than TTC info rich posts.

I'm now not sure whether to close it down and solely concentrate on the Making Babies Network. Which BTW is picking up beautifully. So if you aren't a part of it yet, JOIN UP!! We have a great group of people on there and so much support! You won't be sorry :)

Quirks....

Come on share your TTC quirks.....

When I was TTC, I used to read my star sign and let it predict whether I was going to "be lucky" that month. I could turn any star sign reading into something TTC related.

Also I used to keep all my Pee Sticks from one cycle, including OPKs and line them all up to make sure there really weren't any lines on the HPTs when comparing them to the OPKs....

So do you have a TTC quirk?

Fertility and Feng Shui

So many of you are looking for a little help in increasing your odds (or
that of a family member) of becoming pregnant. But how can Feng
Shui help you in your fertility quest?

One way to increase your odds of adding to your family is by refraining
from disturbing the energy in your home. When trying to conceive,
avoid any remodeling, major or minor, in or around your home. Try to
keep your home as calm as possible. And don't agitate the energy
around your bed. Don't sweep or dust around or under your bed
during conception attempts and pregnancy. A dusty bedroom could
just equal a baby in your future!

Keep the area under your bed clear and clutter free. In Feng Shui it is
always recommended that the area under the bed be clear so energy
can circulate under you while you sleep, this is even more important
when trying to conceive and while pregnant.

Another way to pump up your fertility is by getting an elephant. No,
not a real one! A representation of an elephant. Elephants have been
considered a fertility symbol for thousands of years. Place a lovely
elephant figurine in your bedroom. Rub your elephant to bring more
children into your family. Some other items to add to your bedroom
(or wear as jewelry) include Rose Quartz Crystals and Kwan Yin
(Goddess of Compassion) statues. Both are known to increase
fertility. And Kwan Yin will come in handy after you have your baby,
because she guards the souls of children. Prolific bunny rabbits are
excellent symbols of fertility. Additionally, add nine stalks of bamboo
plant to the Children and Creativity Bagua area (the right center area)
of your bedroom. This adds healthy growth to this Bagua area. Make
sure to take care of your plants. If any of your bamboo plants show
any sign of ill health immediately discard the stalk and replace them.
Sick or dead plants are sources of negative energy, something you are
trying to avoid. Another thing to add is a brass wind chime to the
entranceway to the house. This will stimulate the energy and bring it
into your home. This is very important when trying to bring a new life
into your home. Hang a crystal in the Children and Creativity Bagua
area (the right center area) of your bedroom.

So stop dusting and start buying positive symbols of fertility for your
home. Once you have that new bundle of joy you will know that it was
worth that little bit of trouble for that lifetime of joy.

Now you see that is why I never fell PG. Under my bed is about a years amount of cr@p..... LOL
